UPDATE: Marine killed in motorcycle crash

Authorities with the Wilmington Police Department Traffic Unit are investigating the death of a motorcycle driver that happened Saturday night. Authorities with the Wilmington Police Department Traffic Unit are investigating the death of a motorcycle driver that happened Saturday night.

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Jonathan P. Hatch, 22, sustained fatal injuries as a result of a motorcycle accident Saturday night. The accident happened around 9:10 PM.

Hatch was stationed at Camp Lejeune.

The motorcycle was the only vehicle involved, and the preliminary investigation suggests that the driver was on Carolina Beach Road, headed downtown, according to WPD spokesperson Lucy Crockett. 

According to officials, Hatch turned his motorcycle into the curve at the crossover where Carolina Beach Road, Burnett Boulevard and Third Street converge; he hit the median and landed on Burnett Boulevard.

Authorities with the Wilmington Police Department Traffic Unit continue to investigate the death at this time.
