WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – It will take a legal battle to bring a public access TV channel to Wilmington, and city council wants to know if residents think it's worth the time and money.
A public input session will give anyone in the city of Wilmington the opportunity to speak up in favor or in opposition to the idea. Steve Lee with Southeastern Alliance for Community Change, the organization pushing for public access, said that public access is worth the effort.
"The benefit of public access far outweighs any small effort that the city might have to go through in order to secure the channel," said Lee.
Securing the channel means a likely lawsuit with Time Warner Cable. Attorneys explained the situation to city council in September. The consensus was to make sure public access truly is desired by the community before taking anyone to court.
