New Hanover soccer falls in 4A East final

Morrisville, NC -New Hanover's bid for a second appearance in the class 4A soccer championship in four years has come to an end.

The Wildcats fell to defending state champion Green Hope 2-1 on Tuesday night.

With the loss New Hanover finishes the season with a 16-7-2 overall record.

Green Hope jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the opening half when Zach Compton got in front of New Hanover keeper Max Johnson to nudge in the goal.

That lead was doubled when Joshua Kennedy scored on a touch angle from the right side of the field beating Johnson near side for a two goal advantage which the Falcons took into the half.

New Hanover's Ricardo Olivares cut the lead in half early in the second when he got behind the Green Hope defense in the 64th minute.
