American build still needs support for Habitat home

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The services, ceremonies and thank you's of Veterans Day might be fading, but the battle for a non-profit in New Hanover County continues after the national day of observance.

Cape Fear Habit for Humanity has put out a call to action. The organization wants to build a home for a local service man or woman with American-made products.

The project was unveiled on September 11, 2012 with the intention of completing the fundraising portion by Veterans Day. Kitty Yerkes, Resource Development Director, said the organization has yet to raise half of the money needed to build the habitat home.

"When we make it halfway, we will narrow down a location for the home," she said.

Wood frames were placed inside both ReStores in New Hanover County for people to sign in support of the cause. A list of what contributions can buy was provided by the non-profit and it's listed below:

Box of Nails

Closet Shelving

Door Locks

Storm Door

Porch Rails

Paint Supplies

Roof Shingles

Interior Doors and Trim

Vinyl Siding

Heating and AC
