Massing of the Colors ceremony honors veteransWILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Many in Wilmington gathered inside the St. Paul's Episcopal Church on 16th and Market Street on Sunday for a Massing of the Colors ceremony.
City and County leaders spoke at the ceremony. The guest speaker was BG Dan Hickman. General Hickman completed his 35 year career as commander of the 30th Separate Armor Brigade serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Veterans said it means a lot to see the community come together, because that wasn't always the case.
"It's a very good feeling because when we were coming back from Vietnam we were neglected people we were unwanted people," said Jeff Moore who served in the Vietnam War. "Freedom is not free it comes at a heavy price, and its good for us to honor our country and the men and women who made that ultimate sacrifice."
