NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A New Hanover County school board member is throwing his hat in the ring in an attempt to fill an open seat on the board of commissioners.
Ed Higgins, who has served on the school board for 18 years, tells WECT.com he has notified the head of the local Republican party, Rhonda Amoroso, of his desire to be appointed to a seat that's being vacated by Rick Catlin.
On Election Day, Catlin won his bid for a seat in the state house.
His term starts next year.
When Catlin leaves, the New Hanover County Republican Party will make a recommendation for who should finish the two years remaining in his term.
