WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Some UNCW students are packaging meals for starving people across the world. Their plan is to package 100,000 meals for STOP HUNGER NOW on Saturday, November 10th from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The Center for Leadership Education and Service at UNCW is organizing 400 new students to assist St. Paul's Episcopal Church in this effort.
Volunteers will actually package rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables, and 21 essential vitamins and minerals for shipment to schools and orphanages in areas of the world where children are starving to death. It is estimated that a child dies from malnutrition every 15 seconds.
"It makes me feel good that all these people want to help out, especially college students," said Desiree Taylor, a student coordinator. "We could be at the beach or sleeping, but instead we're here to help out and that makes my heart smile."
STOP HUNGER NOW is able to package nutritious, life saving meals for just $0.25 per meal! A gift of just $1.00 will feed 4 children. To make a donation, click here.
