
WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A local Marine who made national news earlier this year will appear on an episode of Katie today on WECT along with his son.
Marine Sgt. Jeremy Cooney returned recently from a deployment in Afghanistan. He is based at Camp Lejeune.
Cooney and his wife had a son, who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and was told he would never walk. When Sgt. Cooney returned from war, he was shocked to see his 6-year-old son walk right into his arms. Sgt. Cooney's was able to keep his son's progress a secret for the reunion. It was all caught on tape and got the attention of several people around the country.
Sgt. Cooney and his family will join Katie Couric today to talk about the reunion. The program airs on WECT beginning at 3 p.m.
