A man and woman have now been charged in connection with an attack that killed 13 cats in Southport.
Mark Lee Hill is charged with communicating threats. The owner of the dogs, April Prevatte, has been cited for allowing the animals to run loose and creating a public nuisance. Last Friday,
two pit bulls got into the cat cages at the Southport-Oak Island Animal Rescue Center (SOAR) and killed 13 cats.
Investigators say afterwards Hill threatened to set fire to the building and kill more cats. But they say he did not plan the mauling. A
pril Prevatte paid a $200 fine and $100 reclaim fee to retrieve the pit bulls dogs from the county animal shelter.
