NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The elections are over, so why are the signs still up?

While candidates are encouraged to clean up their political signs as soon as possible, they have a time limit to get things done.

Any sign that stays on a state maintained road for longer than ten days after an election will be removed by the Department of Transportation.

All other signs, including ones in your own yard, can sit around for 30 days. If they're not down by then, local governments can step in to make sure someone clears the signs.
