
WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Detectives with the Wilmington Police Department are investigating the death of a man who was found in a wooded area near 16th and Kidder Streets.
According to Lucy Crockett with the police department, a man called authorities Sunday morning to report his friend was dead from a fire at their camp in the woods.
When emergency officials arrived, they found a man who was badly burned beside a fire pit that had been dug at the homeless encampment.
They believe the victim is 28-year-old Justin John Crum. He has no fixed address.
Crockett said the man who reported the incident had severe burns on his hands and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
