WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A warm front will surge through the area early Sunday and allow afternoon highs to soar into the low 70's. By afternoon a cool front will approach from the west bringing with it isolated to scattered showers and maybe even a few thunderstorms with gusty winds. Sunday night will be partly cloudy and cool with lows in the upper 40's. Monday will be mostly cloudy and unsettled. A few isolated light showers will be possible with highs in the upper 50's behind the front.
As the front stalls offshore Monday night, a coastal low will begin to form off the coast of north Florida and slide east-northeast. The low will pick up a lot of strength as it moves northward and will bring ugly weather to southeast North Carolina on Election Day Tuesday. Look for: periods of heavy rain, gusty northeast winds, and a chilly high in the mid 50's. Rainfall totals will be heavier near the coast and lighter around I-95. Unfortunately this storm will get much stronger as it moves towards the northeast U.S. Wednesday and Thursday.
