COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - The state is trying to get some money back from the Columbus County Department of Aging.
According to county manager Bill Clark, the state's medicaid department wants about $200,000 back from them.
It stems from an audit recently in Columbus County. A spokesman with the state tells us, they do audits when healthcare providers do not follow the proper steps for medicaid claims.
But, Bill Clark says they followed proper procedures.
"We don't feel like we owe them money. We've reviewed the charts and we felt like we documented the charts well. There were 69 charts that they called and questioned. We've gone through each chart, line by line and we feel good about it." Said Clark.
Clark tells us, the county is appealing the state's recommendation. This doesn't just affect Columbus County. Other health care providers across the state are getting targeted as well.
Monday, county commissioners will vote whether to hire an attorney out of Raleigh to fight this.
