Teens take off on stolen scooter to get away from police

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Two teens took off on a scooter Tuesday night in Wilmington, in hopes of getting away from police officers.

According to the Wilmington Police Department, a sergeant noticed two young males on a scooter parked at the Country Store on Wrightsville Avenue. He said neither were wearing helmets, but had bandanas covering their faces.

The pair took off on the scooter when they spotted the sergeant and turned into the Creek Apartments. From there, officials say, the teens cut through apartment buildings on the scooter to get away.

Police say other officers in the area ended up finding the teens in Vista Village.

According to police, it was discovered the scooter had been stolen after running the VIN. Officials found bolt cutters and a screw driver with the scooter.

Police say both teens were released to their parents and officers are following up with an investigation in coordination with the Office of Juvenile Justice for possible charges.
