Deputy charged in fatal accident no longer on administrative leave

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A Brunswick County Sheriff's Deputy involved in a fatal accident is no longer on administrative leave, according to the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office.

Deputy Adam Lockner was involved in a fatal accident with a motorcycle at the intersection of Shingle Tree Road and Old Ocean Highway Monday, September 17 around 4 p.m.

According to the sheriff's office spokesperson, the driver of the motorcycle, Thomas Varney of Virginia was airlifted to New Hanover Medical Center where he later died.

Deputy Lockner did not have any serious injuries and was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and failure to yield.

Deputy Lockner has been assigned to a school as a resource officer with no change in pay.

The internal investigation has been closed.
