WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Emergency crews battled a house fire in the 100 block of Kenwood Avenue in Wilmington Monday around lunch time.

You could see heavy smoke billowing in the area from the First Alert Battleship Camera.

According to officials, Robert Castorena, 52 of Wilmington, crashed into the side of the house, hitting the gas line and a 100 lb. propane tank.

Castorena has been arrested and charged with DWI and failure to maintain his lane. As of 5 p.m. Monday, police say Castorena was going through the booking process after a trip to the hospital.

There was one person inside the home when the fire started. Some residents from nearby homes were evacuated.

A live power line was down on the street in front of the house, creating a dangerous situation for firefighters attempting to control the interior and exterior fires.

The fire was brought under control in about 45 minutes.

Neighbors say a mother and two children lived in the home.
