WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The Cape Fear Fair and Expo will be closed Sunday due to the windy and rainy conditions from Hurricane Sandy.
Last year, the fair pulled in around $40,000, but had to shut down early due to inclement weather.
According to organizer Skip Watkins, the tents can handle "pretty strong gusts" and they can clear the animal tents in just two hours.
Watkins said ride safety is "paramount" and if they are wet, they will not operate. The fair will close if it rains.
"If we have to close, we'll close," explained Watkins. "That's the good thing about being a week-long fair."
The Cape Fear Fair and Expo runs through November 3.
