MPD officer investigated in alleged road rage incident

Posted: Updated:

MEMPHIS, TN - (WMC-TV) – Memphis Police are trying to sort out yet another complaint against one of their own. This time they are investigating a road rage incident involving an SUV, a motorcycle and an off duty Memphis Police officer.

A driver reported off duty Memphis officer Darrell Malone after spotting a group of motorcyclists driving recklessly on I-40 at Germantown Parkway.

The driver told police he pulled up next to Malone and threatened to call police.  The driver claims the off duty officer showed him his handgun in a holster and said "I am the police."

Police found Officer Malone in the parking Lot of Joe's Crabshack just off the Germantown exit.

Malone told his fellow officers he was cut off by an SUV and was simply waving at the driver to alert him there were motorcycles in the lane next to him.  He says the driver must have seen his gun while he was waving.

But the driver says Malone actually contacted him at home after the incident while he was still off duty.

Malone is the latest in a string of Memphis police officers who have had to be investigated.  As of October of this year, 19 officers were arrested for various charges.

While Malone is not charged with anything criminal, the police department is investigating the claims. So far no disciplinary action has been taken against the officer who is assigned to the Old Allen Station.
