SOUTHPORT, NC (WECT)- Hundreds are showing their support for Jessica Jackson-Barfoot. The Southport woman died Tuesday just days after getting married to Michael Barfoot.
"They asked me who my wife was, and I just remember those words, I regret...," recalled Michael Barfoot. He says Jessica, a mother of two and step-mother of two, worked 80 hours a week to support her family.
"She was thoughtful, she cared and she would give the shirt off of her back for anyone," said Barfoot. Now he says he is realizing just how many lives his new bride touched. Yesterday, her friend of 10 years, Jennifer Milau, started a facebook page in her memory.
"That way the legacy lives on and her kids and step-kids have something to remember her by," said Milau. By Thursday there were well over 400 likes. "I just didn't have any idea how large the volume of love was out there for her, and it keeps growing minute by minute," said Barfoot.
In addition to the kind words, one of the companies she worked for is paying for the funeral.
"It's overwhelming because I didn't have a dime to put towards it because of the wedding," said Barfoot. He says actions of love like this are helping him get through this difficult time.
There will also be a vigil for her Friday, following a visitation at her home on Cagney Lane from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
