WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) – With less than two weeks before Election Day, there's a hard push to get a smoking ban passed at Wrightsville Beach.
One group is working hard to get it passed, and at this point, really without opposition -- the Surfrider Foundation is making sure nothing is left to chance
Members are increasing their efforts at raising awareness by putting up signs and mailing out information; however, they feel only a small group of people actually care about the smoking ban.
"I don't think smokers are bad," said Aaron Richardet of Surfrider. "I think they're great people. It's a minority of the people that are ruining it for the other portion of the 18 percent, but unfortunately…[for] the 82 percent [who are non-smokers], it's time to stand up and take their rights into consideration."
There is currently not an organized group fighting to keep the smoking ban off the beach, which is making the pro-side feel very confident.
