Gas leak forces home evacuations

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Castle Street residents were pulled from their beds early Wednesday morning, after reports of a natural gas leak.

According to New Hanover County 911 Dispatch, a resident reported a natural gas leak coming from a meter outside their home around 2am.

Fire crews responded, evacuating residents living on Castle Street, between 11th and 12th Streets, while 13th and Queen Streets were blocked off.

Piedmont Natural Gas was called to shut off the gas. Officials believe the leak came from a ruptured line.
