WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Strong showers and thunderstorms are expected late this afternoon into the evening as a powerful Canadian cold front pushes eastward across the region. Most of the day will be warm, and somewhat humid as the high pressure center responsible for the near perfect conditions this weekend moves offshore. This will open the door for the threat of some stronger storms as we go into the afternoon and evening hours.
The storms that develop could produce some bowing features, capable of producing severe winds. The Storm Prediction Center, in fact, has us under the ‘slight chance' for severe weather category through this evening.
In the wake of this fast moving system sunny and cool weather is anticipated through Thursday and Friday when yet another seasonable upper level low pressure trough moves through. Early estimates of the weekend forecast are looking sunny and dry.
