NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Dozens took steps to fight hunger in New Hanover County on Sunday afternoon. This was the 33rd year for the annual CROP Hunger walk at Hugh Macrae Park.

More than 100 people walked in the event, which raises money to fight hunger and poverty worldwide. Not all of the money goes overseas, 25 percent will stay in the area, going to programs in New Hanover County.

"There's more hunger and poverty than ever before," said Lynn Weaver, a member of the Crop Walk Committee. "We see that on the news and in Africa and then also in North Carolina and in Wilmington, the face of hunger and poverty is changing we see it in our schools and our streets.

Both Mother Hubbard's Cupboard and NurishNC will benefit from Sunday's walk.
