RALEIGH, NC (WECT) – A public hearing will be held in Raleigh next week to discuss the proposed insurance hike for homeowners.
Kathleen Riely is a government affairs director for the Realtors Association who's against coastal homeowners paying more for insurance than those who live in other parts of the state.
Riely said a law was passed earlier this year allowing public hearings before the commissioner of insurance makes a decision on raising rates.
According to Riely , this is the first time the law will be tested, so it's important for people to attend. The hearing will take place in the Dobbs Building at the Department of Insurance Office in Raleigh October 17.
Some real estate agents say the housing market is finally starting to recover and an insurance hike could hurt the momentum.
