NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The New Hanover County Republican party has fulfilled its duty in providing documents supporting their nomination for a vacant county commissioner seat.

According to the New Hanover County GOP, affidavits were dropped off to county commissioners on Tuesday.

WECT.com is told the packet is about an inch thick and contains sworn testimonies from Melissa Gott and supporting documents regarding her residency.

"We feel like we've done our part and now it is up to commissioners to do theirs," said New Hanover County GOP Chairwoman Rhonda Amoroso.

Questions were raised last week at a special meeting called by commissioners to approve the party's nomination. Gott was nominated to replace former chair Ted Davis' seat after he left to take a position in the General Assembly.

"I would like to see this put to bed," she said. "We still strongly believe she is a strong candidate and this appears it is a witch hunt."

Amoroso didn't know when commissioners will meet to discuss the nomination.
