BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A man was killed Friday afternoon after being thrown from the motorcycle he was driving.
According to Highway Patrol, Melvin Hines, 58 of Ash, was heading south on US 17, just north of Shallotte. The traffic on US 17 was slowing to a stop and Hines slid off the road when he applied the brakes.
Highway Patrol said the motorcycle flipped over and he and a female passenger were thrown from the motorcycle. Both were wearing helmets at the time.
Hines died at the scene and the female passenger was taken to the hospital. Her condition is unknown at this time.
