Many run in mud, get dirty for a cause

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - More than 700 people got dirty for a cause on Saturday.   A plot of land off of Infantry Road was transformed into a giant obstacle course for the second annual mud run.

The 5K course was complete with 26 obstacles, including mud pits, slides, tire rolling and six walls.  All of the money raised will go towards Step Up for Soldiers, an organization which works to help out local soldiers and their families.

"They are doing this because they have love of the nation and love of the soldier, we help the men that come back with lost and limited mobility issues and their families," said Thomas Russell, the organizations founder.

He says they were hoping to raise $25,000.
