WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Following a disappointing end of the 2012 season, the Wilmington Hammerheads are making changes from within.
According to team officials, the organization will promote Matt Sadler to club general manager for the upcoming 2013 season. Sadler had previously served the organization as its sales manager.
"Matt has stepped in the last two years and has done a phenomenal job for us," said Hammerheads majority owner Bill Rudisill. "His promotion to general manager is an indication of his hard work and dedication to the Hammerheads and I look forward to Matt leading our team. We have a tremendous group of individuals in the Hammerheads' office who are committed to our Club."
"I'm excited for this opportunity," stated Sadler. "We have a great Hammerheads staff and we all look forward to keeping the Wilmington Hammerheads the best professional sports entertainment value in southeast North Carolina."
In lieu of accepting the position of general manager, Sadler has been required to resign as head coach of Cape Fear Community College's men's soccer team.
Sadler was a four-year starter for Methodist University, and would be bestowed the honor of captainship prior to his senior year. He would earn a bachelor's degree in sports management.
Prior to joining the Hammerheads in 2011, Sadler spent three seasons as the men's assistant soccer coach at Alma mater. He also served as assistant athletic director, physical education teacher, and boys and girls soccer coach at Fayetteville Christian School. The boy's soccer team advanced to the State Final Four twice during his tenure.
Head coach David Irving will resume his responsibilities as Director of Soccer Operations.
