RALEIGH, NC (WECT) - A man from Wilmington who called himself "The Credit Doctor" will spend more than eighteen years behind bars and pay more than $1.1 million in restitution after pleading guilty to several charges.
James Goddard pleaded guilty to one count of bank fraud, three counts of wire fraud, three counts of money laundering, one count of obstruction of justice and a count of aggravated identity theft.
For a period of four years last decade, Goddard sent in hundreds of false credit card and lines of credit applications for individuals and businesses to banks. He met with people during this time and got their personal information while saying he'd get them credit for their business. According to the indictment, he got between ten and twenty cards on their behalf. He submitted false information and used the cards for personal gain.
Goddard is required to pay $1,112,132.66 in restitution in all.
