Town leaders discuss what to do with people, equipment stored at Sunny Point propertyCAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) - The Town of Carolina Beach has until the end of December to move most everything off of a property it has leased from Sunny Point for decades. The property is off of Dow Road and serves as a buffer zone for the military ocean terminal at Sunny Point.
The military did give the town an extension to move several dumpsters, they have until March of 2013 to do so. However, everything else, from a pubic works facility, to several sheds, to a garage, to even a greenhouse must be gone by the end of the year.
The town board agreed to send a letter to the military, informing them that they are complying with the lease and are in the process of moving everything off of the property.
Town leaders also discussed their options, in terms of where they can move the equipment and the around 30 people who work in the Public Works Department. One suggestion was to station them at the police training facility for the short-term.
