BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Leaders in Brunswick County are one step closer to handing off the old hospital to a local company.
County commissioners voted to approve a contract with East Coast Lands One, LLC on Monday night.
The company is based out of Wilmington and is offering $1,750,000 for the old hospital.
According to Brunswick County Manager Marty Lawing, East Coast has sixty days to do its due diligence and check out the property. They can inspect the building and review paperwork in order to satisfy themselves before making the purchase.
According to Lawing, if they find something they don't like they can withdrawal their bid.
Once the sixty day period is over, the county and the company will close on the contract. Lawing said the contract states both parties will have to close no later than Feb. 15, 2013.
East Coast Lands One, LLC has not stated what they want to do with the building if they purchase it.
The county will pay about $20,000 to $30,000 per month in energy and utility costs until the property is sold.
The county is waiting to receive a deposit of $87,600 before it enters into the upset bid process. Once the county receives the deposit, the bid process will be posted in local newspapers. County leaders expect that to happen sometime next week.
Jacobs Real Estate Advisors was the last company to move ahead with negotiations. Those quickly ended after inspecting the building.
