WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Shower and thunderstorms will be likely throughout the day today as a slow moving cold front approaches from the west. Ahead of this front a very warm and moist air mass. While severe weather is not anticipated to be a major issue, some rotation can occur, particularly for cells moving over the open ocean. This will keep beach communities under the threat of an isolated waterspout and strong straight line winds where these storms pop up. Rainfall totals could reach an inch or better in some locations today.
Gradual clearing is expected over the next couple of days as the front lifts across southeastern North Carolina through Thursday.
Drier and cooler air is expected for the weekend.
