KURE BEACH, NC (WECT) – The man who turned a race into a tradition for one beach town will not be able to continue the event in 2013.
Kure Beach Mayor Dean Lambeth said town leaders will not give Bill Scott, owner of SetUp Events, a permit to operate the Kure Beach Double Sprint Triathlon next year. Scott owed the town $240 from this year's race, after he rallied runners to contest the charges.
Scott could not be reached by the time of this report for a comment.
Lambeth mentioned that town council's decision does not mean the end for the event. He said the town is in talks with someone else to keep the marathon tradition alive in Kure Beach.
"If we could get someone else to handle it," he said. "We would consider it."
