WEATHER: Clouds & scattered showers for Sunday

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A slow moving front will inch its way just offshore Sunday.  Still with disturbances riding along the frontal boundary, we'll have to keep clouds and shower chances in the forecast.  We could even see a few thunderstorms near the coast.  Rain chances will be lower, close to twenty percent , near I-95.  Here in Wilmington you can expect mostly cloudy skies with scattered showers and a few thunderstorms at any point in the day.  Highs will be cooler in the upper 70's as a light north wind kicks in behind the front.

The front may drift back inland on Monday and Tuesday.  This will allow for higher humidity and warmer afternoon highs in the low to mid 80's.  Scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely Monday.  Activity could be widespread as a more potent low impacts the area on Tuesday.  A drier airmass returns mid week with the promise of more sunshine.  Highs will remain in the 80's all week.

A northerly surface high has built into our area since Monday, bringing us cooler and crisper air... but don't expect it to last much longer, so enjoy it while it lasts! The system is expected to move out by Thursday morning, and heat and oppressive humidity is going to make a return by the weekend.
