Posted: Updated:

WASHINGTON, DC (WECT) –  New polls released Thursday by NBC News, the Wall Street Journal and Marist show President Obama leading Republican challenger Mitt Romney in North Carolina. The same poll shows Pat McCrory leading Walter Dalton in the race for Governor in the state.

The groups polled 1375 registered voters from September 22-25. President Obama and Vice-President Joe Biden had a lead of 49-45 over Romney and his running mate Paul Ryan, with 6% saying they are undecided. A similar poll of registered voters in June, without mentioning the running mates, ended with the President ahead 46-44, with 9% responded "undecided". Among likely voters in September, the Obama-Biden ticket leads 48-46, with 5% undecided.

The biggest change is seen in the race for Governor. In the poll of likely voters, McCrory has widened his lead to 51-38 over the current Lieutenant Governor, with 11% saying they are undecided. The same poll in June had the former Mayor of Charlotte ahead by a slim 43-41 margin, with 17% responded ‘undecided". The poll of registered voters puts McCrory ahead of Dalton 52-39%, with 8% undecided.
