Surf City Volunteer Fire Dept. remembers longtime firefighter
SURF CITY, NC (WECT) - Wednesday, Lt. John Moore passed away. The Surf City Volunteer Firefighter was supposed to go into heart surgery on Thursday.
"I'm going to miss him, I really am," said Taylor Jones, a member of the department. Lt. John Moore spent most of his life, almost two decades, fighting fires. His friends say he worked all over the area, in places like Jacksonville, North Topsail and Surf City.
"John did everything for this department, anything that needed doing he did it," said Jones. Jones says that Moore worked hard to get a grant for a new tanker truck, and spent a lot of time training new firefighters.
"When I met John, I was 13 or 14 years old," said Jones. "John had just come back to the station, and he taught me everything I know, how to pump a truck, how to respond to a scene." Teaching lessons, that will stick around for years to come.
