CHADBOURN, NC (WECT) - Thursday, Chadbourn will go live with a new system to help with water bills.
Officials used a grant from the North Carolina Rural Center to install new water meters around town.
They say that since the meters are electronic, there's less chance for human error, and town employees can read meters faster -- more than 600 in an hour.
They also say that the meters will help people save money.
Normally, it takes town workers a month to discover water leaks, and now, they will be able to discover a leak in a day.
Town manager Stevie Cox says Tuesday, they tested hundreds of meters and found nearly 20 leaks.
