Temporary solution in place to fix weak radio signals

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Emergency management officials in Brunswick County are working to make improvements to the police and fire radio system in Southport.

Service on the new VIPER radio system in areas near the waterfront is spotty for those using the system. Emergency officials say the signal is weak and they can't get reception everywhere.

Right now, the county is working to install a temporary solution until the new system gets upgraded statewide.

Brunswick County Emergency Services Director Anthony Marzano said the upgrade will allow for an additional range of options to solve the signal problem.

"We don't want to invest a lot of money into a solution now when we'll have a whole bunch of different options to choose from in the near future," explained Marzano.

Marzano said the temporary fix should be installed in the next few weeks.
