FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla (WECT/AP) – Production crews for Iron Man 3 will soon be leaving Wilmington to head south. Officials say segments of the movie will be filmed in the Fort Lauderdale area starting in October.
According to an NBC affiliate in South Florida, the movie's cast and crew are expected to start arriving October 1 with filming to begin in Dania Beach and around South Florida shortly after.
Tourism officials in Florida told WPTV that Boward's unique and diverse location can provide the backdrop for any movie genre. Last summer Rock of Ages also filmed in the area, according to film commissioner Noelle Stevenson.
Other recent film and television projects in South Florida include A&E's series The Glades, USA's Burn Notice and ABC's Charlie's Angels.
The film, featuring Robert Downey Jr., Ben Kingsley, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Don Cheadle, is slated to release in May 2013, according to Marvel.com.
