CHARLOTTE, NC (WECT/ WBTV) – President Obama is the most recent addition to a traveling display that has several people hanging in nooses.
The Phipps family in Duplin County created the display to bring awareness to a shooting case over a land dispute involving family members.
Initially they created an effigy of seven local and state leaders who they say have done them harm, and they recently added another body. Lacy and Reese Phipps say if you're found hanging on display you've taken away their land, causing the land fight which led to the death of their son and brother.
The mannequins are all dressed as different people, including President Barack Obama, North Carolina Governor Bev Perdue and Senior Resident Superior Court Judge W. Douglas Parsons. A YouTube video posted by a member of the Phipps family said they added the president to the display after a federal case into the murder investigation went nowhere.
The display has previously been to Wilmington, New York City and other cities across the state.
