Congressman McIntyre tours GE Aviation facilityCASTLE HAYNE, NC (WECT) - U.S. Congressman Mike McIntyre (D NC 7th District) toured the GE Aviation facility in Castle Hayne on Thursday afternoon. As he walked around, the Congressman was briefed on new state-of-the art equipment and also got to see how jet engines are made.
The GE Aviation plant makes rotating parts for military and commercial jet engines. Officials say the production rates are growing, and should increase from 3,000 commercial and military engine deliveries in 2011 to 3,350 deliveries in 2012.
McIntyre says that's because of the dedication of the facility's close to 600 employees.
"I wanted to spend time with what is a known successful business," said McIntyre. "That is a strong employer and has a major impact on our nation's economy as well as our local economy."
