Deputies make arrest in August shooting, still searching for accomplices

Deputies in Pender County are investigating a shooting that happened in August in the Maple Hill area. Deputies in Pender County are investigating a shooting that happened in August in the Maple Hill area.

MAPLE HILL, NC (WECT) - Jacksonville Police arrested Rakeem Tavarus Pickett during a traffic stop, right before Christmas, in connection to a shooting that happened back in August in the Maple Hill area.  


Lt. Shepard of the Pender County Sheriff's Office, says they believe Pickett shot Ryan A. Mullins, of Swansboro in August during a robbery.  According to authorities, Mullins was making a turn from Webbtown to Wooten Road when two men jumped in his car. That's when Pickett allegedly shot Mullins in the thigh causing his car to crash.

The Sheriff's department is also searching for Dorenza Judge in connection to the shooting and robbery.

They also believe two females were involved in driving the getaway car. Natesha Lee was arrested. Warrants are out and they are searching for the second

A gun was found in his car at the time of the traffic stop. The gun is being examined, but the Sheriff's Office says it is the same make and caliber as the one in the August shooting.

Pickett was also wanted for missing a court date in connection to another shooting on June 26, 2011. Apparently, it also happened on Webbtown Rd. about 100 yards away from the other one.

He allegedly shot the victim, Antwon Ferrior, in the lower leg following an argument.
