WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - As the impact of Ernesto is still being felt along the Yucatan Peninsula, residents in Belize can sigh a breath of relief.
Belize is the home of Wilmington's sister city San Pedro. Wilmington is home to a Belizian consulate office that heavily promotes tourism in the country.
Because tourism makes up 70 percent of their economy, getting back on their feet quickly is important.
According to Edward Paul, the consulate to Belize, Wilmington has an agreement in place to assist Belize if the area is hit by a devastating hurricane.
Belize also has an emergency response team available, should we need it in Wilmington.
