Go 4 it LOL: A texting champion will rise

(RNN) – Remember the Rocky montages? Those were good.

Rocky would hit a punching bag; he would jump rope. At first he wasn't very good at it, but you knew he was going to get better. In the end, he would climb mountains, stand triumphant at the top of the stairs or dive triumphantly into the ocean with his arms held high – he caught that "greasy fast" chicken too.

Now replace Rocky with a pair of thumbs. I imagine the training for the national texting championship is pretty much like that.

The greatest texters this great nation has to greatly offer are facing off in the LG U.S. National Texting Competition on Wednesday. The 11 contestants range in age from 16 to 24 years old (of course they do. These kids and their silly phones), and the winner walks away with $50,000.

According to the Associated Press, the champion will prove their ability by texting while blind-folded, texting behind their back and "Text Blitz," where phrases are shown to them that they have to thumb-type as fast as possible. They will be judged in three skills: accuracy, dexterity and speed.

Last year's champion, Austin Wierschke, is back to defend his crown against all comers. One of the other guys or girls is probably a gritty underdog no one has heard of, but who overcomes the odds to win and becomes an inspiration to all.

"Getting strong now ... Gonna fly now … Gonna fly … Fly!"
