SOUTHPORT, NC (WECT) – Two departures from the Southport-Fort Fisher ferry route will be cancelled Tuesday, August 7 to assist Safe Haven Productions with their filming efforts.

The Motor Vessel Southport and its crew will be utilized in the filming of the movie Safe Haven, which is currently being filmed in and around the Southport area and is based on a book by Nicholas Sparks.

Safe Haven will pay the DOT $750 for every hour the ferry is not running because of filming, in addition to a $380 daily fee to help offset the cost of the ferry not running.

According to the NCDOT, the 6:15 p.m. departure from Southport and the 7 p.m. departure from Fort Fisher will not take place August 7.

The NCDOT is asking commuters to make alternate arrangements that day and visitors are asked to plan ahead and be aware the schedule will be amended.

According to the NCDOT, the alternate route from Southport Ferry terminal to Carolina Beach is as follows:

Go around circle at end of Ferry Road and go to first traffic light (corner of Moore and Howe Streets), turn right onto Howe. At second traffic light, turn right onto River Road (NC 133/87). Stay on NC 133/87 until get to the town of Leland. Turn right onto NC 17/74/76 to Wilmington. Cross over bridge and pick up US 421 South to Carolina Beach).
