WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The city of Wilmington is taking action after a tree branch fell and crushed a car on Market Street.
The pictures were pretty dramatic. The branch looked like an entire tree. It crushed the engine of the car and just missed the windshield.
Councilman Charlie Rivenbark happened to be nearby and was one of the first on the scene. Now, Rivenbark is asking city staff to inventory the city's trees and remove limbs that could be dangerous.
"I don't want to see another tree limb come down," said Rivenbark. "There are some that I have noticed in the last two or three days that are just dead. A good strong wind and they will just fall over. And there is still enough substance to them that they will do damage."
