Longboarder Tony Silvagni won the collegiate longboard division scoring a 9.83 out of a 10 on his first wave in the final heat of the longboard competition.WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The surf team at UNCW came home with a national championship title this weekend after competing in the 2012 National Interscholastic Championships.
Coached by Dylan McNamara and Peter Fritzler, UNCW's team is made up of eight surfers: 2 female shortboarders, 5 male shortboarders and 1 male longboarder.
UNCW's surf team is a four time champion for the east coast,and placed third overall out of about 20 colleges in the National Interscholastic Championships.

"I ended my college career with an amazing accomplishment," said Silvagni.
The 2012 National Interscholastic Championship took place in Salt Creek, California June 16. This is the 12th consecutive year the competition has been staged at Salt Creek, one of the sport's most high performance surfing arenas.
