SOUTHPORT, NC (WECT) - Citizens in Southport voiced their opinions on the proposed budget Thursday night. The Board of Alderman heard from concerned residents in a public hearing.
Mayor Robert Howard says leaders have asked the city manager to take another look at the budget and to cut about 15 percent.
The city manager in Southport did not propose a tax increase for the next fiscal year.
City staff recommended taking about $675,000 dollars from the general fund to balance the $4.2 million dollar budget.
Mayor Howard says the manager will have more recommendations next week.
