BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) - The White Lake Police Department is investigating a drowning.
Bladen County Emergency Services Director Bradley Kinlaw confirmed that a man drowned at White Lake on Friday.
According to BladenOnline.com, a spokesperson for the NC Parks Service said that the victim, whose identity remains unknown, climbed onto a private pier with three friends. The victim then jumped into the water and called out for help.
One of his friends reportedly jumped in to help him to no avail. A passerby stopped to help and was able to rescue the second man, but the first victim could not be found.
The Parks Service, Bladen County Emergency Services and White Lake Police officials were called to the scene around 2:45 p.m., where the victim's body was recovered by divers with Bladen Water Rescue in approximately seven feet of water.
The body was then taken to the Bladen County Hospital, and the victim's next of kin are being notified.
