SOUTHPORT, NC (WECT) – Relativity Media has finalized its lead roles for their latest production, Safe Haven, being filmed in the Southport area.
According to the production company, Josh Duhamel (Transformers) and Julianne Hough (Footloose) will star as the lead roles in the film.
Safe Haven is based on a novel written by Nicholas Sparks and is expected to be released in theaters February 8, 2013. It's about a young woman's struggle to find love again after she arrives in a small North Carolina town.
"I'm thrilled that Josh and Julianne have agreed to come aboard Safe Haven—it's hard to think of an actor better-suited to play the character of Alex than Josh, and Julianne will bring a combination of vulnerability and strength to the role of Katie," said Sparks in a press release. "They are both such talented and charismatic individuals – and best of all, they have tremendous personal chemistry, which is essential for this film."
The film is targeted to start production in Southport in July. Crews have already started building sets for the movie. Locals should be aware there will be some traffic changes due to construction and filming.
The Nicholas Sparks Foundation is hosting a contest to raise money for the Hope for the Warriors and The Epiphany School. Anyone who donates $10 by June 30 will be entered to win a visit to the set of Safe Haven and meet Duhamel and Hough.
